Cyclist on the Busway

Luton - Dunstable Busway
Luton – Dunstable Busway

Last December I tried to run every day and often early in the morning.  One frosty morning I captured this photo, as usual with my iPhone.  It even got picked up by the local authority who asked if they could use it for some of their social media – I was delighted and it got a good reaction.

So you know, the Busway was opened about 7 or 8 years ago and is on the course of an old disused railway line.  Modified buses travel quickly between the two towns and it’s a pretty efficient form of public transport; it is certainly well supported.

The cycle track has turned out to be a successful bit of ‘added value’.  Apparently it wasn’t really in the original thinking other than a simple dirt track for maintenance vehicles.  When it opened, the public were granted access, although the surface was rather stony which was not good for ordinary road bikes.  Sometime later it was upgraded to a tarmac finish and is now well used by runners, cyclists, dog walkers etc.

I took a few shots on one of my early morning runs.  They were all from the same point and found the low down viewpoint worked best.  The cyclist has hopefully brought some balance to the photograph.
